Potential

Nuance spikes the punch bowl of life, doesn’t it?

I’m not here to spike your punch, nor to take it away…I’m only going to give you a look at the punch bowl I drink from, and describe its ability to transcend what the taste buds thought they could experience.

One of the sayings in today’s world is “don’t fall in love with potential”. Often the reasoning associated with it is that one would be not falling in love with who someone currently is - effectively distancing you from a genuine connection at the jump. It’s fair to see it that way as a human being, and it can certainly play out that way, if one were to let it.

Another way to look at the same reasoning usually associated is to say that one would not be falling in love with who someone is presenting themselves as. If you notice, the feeling of those words are different…and if you were to experience the energy of the exact situation, you may very well be put off by someone presenting themselves as something they are not.

These examples above depict two sides of the same coin, that as human beings, contain the layers of masks, conditioning, fears, and so on. Many times, there isn’t even a chance of “potential” being tapped into with these experiences.

However, there is an undeniable force in this life that is encountered at times. We are hit with sensations felt all the way to our core…beyond just the five basic senses. Articulation of it is difficult…sometimes we only come up with words like “I feel seen…heard…connected to.” It comes out of nowhere, when there is no expectation or anticipation. It’s just there. It just is. It is a resonance. It does not happen with everyone, or everything…and that’s what makes it easier to be aware of, and more able to be appreciated.

In many conversations, I’ve exchanged pleasantries and compliments as I connected with people in depth, with presence and awareness to each other, and then would continue on with my day. Yet, every once in a while, that force I spoke of shows up. I once was told in an online conversation where there was already a noticeable aura, “You have such a kind and pure heart”. I asked if it came through my writing, and the response was “Not necessarily; Your eyes”.

It wasn’t only the words themselves, it was the energy behind the words, and the essence communicating them. I was floored. I paused for several moments, my eyes filling slowly with tears. As an articulate person, I couldn’t articulate the feeling. I literally responded with the emoji of a face whose eyes were tearing up, because that’s what was happening. I felt it to my core. Similar words have been said by others before, and yet this was an experience where no thought or expectation or anticipation had any time to do anything about it…straight to the soul. It just was.

This indescribable resonance is potential. It’s what exists in the energy beyond the ego, beyond the conditioning, beyond masks, beyond just the physical. It’s the kind of feeling felt in the soul that one would WANT to feel in ANY kind of experience with others in life. It is in the essence of the other, in the essence of self…and the alchemy between them. Whether it’s with friends, family, romance, work, or humaning in general - this potential is valuable, purposeful, and fruitful in your journey.

How such an experience plays out with the flow of life, well…that’s the mystery of this incarnation. Through my experiences in such meetings with potential, awareness and allowance of it to show me its part in my journey - rather than concluding what it should mean or what I might want it to mean - seems to support the maximum growth.

From this perspective, it’s absolutely easy to fall in love with potential. It’s also right to. There’s a resonance in your path, something coming to you, for reasons known and unknown and unfoldings to explore. Love is a frequency that exists independently of our minds, and we simply choose whether we want to be in the space of it (through our shifts in frequency), and whether we want to share it with others. The contrast of where this potential exists and doesn’t exist gives rise to appreciation for the resonance…and if one can be objective, it actually builds a respect for the ego and conditioning and layers - because those things all show us difference, which leads to appreciation for the essence of souls beneath them.

Sure, the 3D life, and society, and conditioning, and the ego all play a part in how we express and present ourselves, and even the direction we go in life (often not aligned with the soul’s desires, but we find our way). It’s the human experience, not to be avoided or ignored. Much the same though, when something cuts right through all of that for you, beyond logic and reasoning and thought and hits home, don’t discount it either.

Potential has its place in this world, just as much as you do.
